Sahakarmi Samaj (SS) is an NGO established in 1997 to promote self-sustainability and empower disadvantaged communities in Nepal. SS operates in 12 districts across Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpashchim Province, known for its innovative community development approach called "Facilitation for Empowerment and Social Transformation (FEST)." In collaboration with FASTENAKTION Switzerland, SS will implement the SAMMAN (Concept of "Samman" which involves recognizing an individual's inherent worth, value, and rights, and treating that individual with dignity, honor, and consideration) Project to empower Dalit communities in Narharinath Rural Municipality and Sanni-Triveni Rural Municipality of Kalikot District. The project aims to enhance community engagement, organizing, and agroecological practices for a dignified life for Dalits in Nepal.
The SAMMAN Project focuses on a people-led approach, empowering Dalit communities and individuals to drive positive change and advocate for their needs. By involving community members in decision-making and solution implementation, SS values their expertise and fosters sustainable change. Through strong community organizations and their networks, the project emphasizes people-led agroecology, promoting sustainable farming practices that align with ecological principles. By prioritizing indigenous knowledge, practices, and collaboration, the project aims to enhance food sovereignty, resilience, and social justice in the community. Through community mobilization and agroecological practices, the SAMMAN Project seeks to create a more resilient and equitable food system that prioritizes the well-being of people and the planet.
