Transcultural Psychosocial Organization Nepal (TPO Nepal) is one of Nepal’s leading psychosocial organizations. It was established in 2005 to promote psychosocial well-being and mental health of people in conflict-affected and other vulnerable communities through the development of sustainable, culturally appropriate, and community-based psychosocial support systems.

Project information:

‘Enabling Truth Memory and Justice’ is a project that will promote and facilitate the effective participation of conflict victims in a credible and victim-centered transitional justice process working through four local partners and across 12 municipalities in Nepal. The overall goal of the program is to contribute to the strengthening of local and national level accountability in inclusive processes of truth-seeking, restorative justice, reconciliation, and memorialization for increased public legitimacy in Nepal’s transitional justice process that is capable of addressing the lack of participation, marginalization and underlying grievances. Out of four partners TPO Nepal is one of the implementing partners that works for 12 municipalities with the financial support of International Alert. Psychosocial Counselor staying at Surkhet will handle over Birendranagar, Chaukune, and Chingad municipalities and Madhes province has to handle over Saptari (BalanBihuland Kanchanrup Municipalities), Siraha (Lahan, Dhangadhimai and Karjanha Municipality)and Mahottari(Bardibas) districts.

TPO Nepal seeks competent, committed, and result-oriented candidates for the following positions:

Job Title                         :     Psychosocial Counselor

Job station                     :     Siraha (Lahan) and Surkhet (Birendranagar)

Job duration                  :     1 year with a possibility of extension

Number of openings       :     2 (two) (one at each station)

Start date                       :     At the earliest

Major responsibilities:

The Psychosocial Counselor will be responsible for the following duties but not limited to:

• Coordinate local and provincial level stakeholder
• Undertake vulnerability assessments; provide appropriate psychosocial intervention to human rights violence cases and their families and make referrals for further support.
• Conduct psychosocial group interventions and provide focused psychosocial support to cases in need.
• Conduct training and supervise of CPSWs
• Conduct community-based psychosocial orientation and sensitization programs.
• Maintain case documentation.
• Participate in project coordination meetings and weekly peer supervision and support meetings.
• Make frequent field visits in rural part of municipalities within their own province area for case identification and provide essential psychosocial support and counseling.
• Willingness and ability to travel to and stay in remote locations for extended periods.
• Advocate for the promotion of psychosocial support activities with local governments and other stakeholders.
• Follow the inputs and additional responsibilities provided by the project coordinator when it comes to the strategic benefits of the project.

Qualification, Skills, and Experience:

• The candidate must have a bachelor's in any discipline along with six-month psychosocial counseling training/Post Graduate Diploma (PGD) in Counseling Psychology. A master’s degree in Psychology would be preferable.
• At least one year of working experience as a psychosocial counselor
• Must have experience in trauma-informed counseling, group psychosocial intervention and case management
• Must have experience working with human rights violence, S/GBVs cases, and other vulnerable groups
• Able to work in a multicultural environment
• Perform any other training-related assignments as directed by the clinical supervisor and project focal person.
• Able to make field visits within working municipalities
• Able to conduct short-term PSS training and orientation programs
• Sound knowledge and skills of the computer, email, and internet. Able to prepare reports in Microsoft Word and excel and submit them to the project focal person.
• Preference will be given to those who can understand and speak Nepali, local languages, both written and spoken, and preferably English as well.
